Your healthier smile (and body!) awaits – with oral hygiene services customized to your needs in Ontario, CA, Oral Hygiene

A healthy smile shows! Ontario Dental Center’s patients who have excellent oral health tend to also have attractive smiles. And, since conditions like advanced gum disease are associated with systemic diseases, these patients also tend to be healthier overall. Guidance and services related to oral hygiene in Ontario, CA,  at the office of Dr. Mukesh Patel, maybe the first step toward feeling better and leading a more active and fulfilling life, in addition to getting a more beautiful smile.

Brush up on your technique

Ontario Dental Center’s professional hygienists love to demonstrate easier and better ways for patients to more effectively brush their teeth. Since we get to know each patient, specific recommendations make a real difference in your ability to remove the food debris and harmful bacteria that promote decay and gum disease. For instance, some patients may brush at least two times every day, which is great. But they don’t brush long enough each time. You need to carefully clean the teeth, as well as the gums, tongue, palate, and other tissues that harbor bacteria. Generally, that means you should brush for at least two minutes each time. Be sure to replace your toothbrush or the head on your battery-powered or electric brush every three to four months.

Floss matters

Patients who only brush their teeth are missing an estimated one-third of each tooth’s surface. Flossing between teeth is important because it can reach those angles and hard-to-brush spaces that may be missed with brushing alone. Here again, our hygienists demonstrate techniques and recommend products that work well for you. For instance, it is important to use a sufficient amount of floss each time. Breaking off at least 18 inches assures that you do not reuse a part of the strand, which would lead to picking up the bacteria and relocating it to another tooth or part of your mouth. Also, with both brushing and flossing, use a light touch. Aggressive behaviors damage gums and teeth. We also recommend fun products for kids that are easier for them to use, such as child-sized interdental brushes in happy colors or featuring their favorite characters.
