Tooth extractions in Ontario, CA are nothing to fear with gentle techniques

Dr. Mukesh Patel works closely with patients to help them avoid the need for tooth extractions in Ontario, CA at his office. The two leading causes of tooth loss: decay and gum disease, are easily prevented with good oral hygiene and early professional intervention. Even among patients with deep decay, Dr. Patel can “save” the affected tooth with non-surgical root canal therapy.

Despite the best care, however, accidents can happen. Changes to your health over time can present new challenges for oral care. Also, you can’t control how the last molars in your mouth will erupt. These wisdom teeth, as they’re called, often don’t break through the gums fully, if at all. Impacted wisdom teeth must be removed to prevent pain and complications, such as damage to surrounding teeth.

Extractions vary from person to person, based upon the needs that Dr. Patel detects when he evaluates your mouth. Generally, though, there are two different types of extractions:

  • Simple or standard – With this type of extraction, no incision is necessary and no surgical techniques are employed. Dr. Patel gently and precisely approaches the affected tooth, loosening it in its socket for ease of removal. The tooth is then lifted from the socket. This technique may be appropriate for patients whose teeth are visible and intact above the gumline.
  • Surgery – Teeth that are too fragile to be removed intact with the standard technique, or those teeth that are so decayed and fractured that little visible structure remains to “lift” the tooth, may be extracted with surgical approaches. Dr. Patel uses specialized instruments to expose the tooth so that it may be removed easily and gently. The treatment site is sutured to close incisions that were made and to promote healthy healing.

As partners in your oral health, Ontario Dental Center walks through ways to take care of the extraction site before the day of your procedure. By following instructions on diet and cleaning, you can avoid complications that delay healing.

Regardless of the type of extraction, we emphasize low-touch techniques and other options to keep you comfortable and relaxed throughout treatment. We also encourage you to replace the teeth as soon as possible. Once your mouth has healed, Dr. Patel can fill in the gaps with dental bridges or dentures, including systems that are supported by dental implants that function like tooth roots in the jawbone.

Proudly rebuilding smiles for patients in and around Chino, Montclair, Claremont, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Pomona, CA, Ontario Dental Center looks forward to working with you and your family to promptly replace teeth or avoid the need for extractions. Why are tooth extractions needed?

Hello, this is Dr. Mukesh Patel from Ontario Dental Center, and I’m going to talk about tooth extractions, also known as tooth removal.

This is the removal of a tooth that is too far gone and cannot be saved by any other procedure.

How long does the procedure take?

It usually is done using a local anesthetic within half an hour to an hour’s time, except for wisdom teeth that require a little bit longer.

What is the needed post-treatment care?

After the extraction, you can do your regular activities except heavy lifting, avoid sun exposure, and doing strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours.

You should eat soft and cold food. And most importantly, you must avoid rinsing, gargling, spitting, or using a straw.

You should also avoid smoking, sodas, or alcohol for at least 24 hours.

And take all the prescribed medication by your dentist for better healing.
