Dental Implants

Dental Implants Provide a Lifelong Solution for Missing Teeth in Ontario, CA.

Dental implants are a great solution for anybody with missing teeth. An implant provides a durable, lifelong solution to missing teeth. Dr. Mukesh Patel and the team at Ontario Dental Center in Ontario, CA, offer this safe and effective solution.

Dental Implants and Teens dental implant is secured directly into the jawbone surgically. Because of this, the jawbone needs to be fully developed before this procedure can be performed. If an implant is put into place before full development has occurred, there can be many complications later. For instance, the implant could become crooked as the jaw grows or become submerged relative to other teeth. Because of this, dental implants are not a suitable choice for younger teens. Depending on how quickly the jawbone develops, some patients may be suitable candidates for the procedure in their later teen years.

What is the Minimum Age for Dental Implants?

There is no strict age rule put into place by dentists and oral surgeons for those who can get dental implants. All patients are different and what really matters is that the jaw is fully developed. The lower and upper jaw complete development and growth at different times, and there is no firm date on when this growth completes. The dentist will need to take X-rays of the patient to determine if jaw development has been completed. It has been found that girls maybe ready for implants by the age of 14 or 15, while boys may need to wait until they are 17 to 18years before being ready for implant surgery.

What to Do If They Are Not Ready for Implants

No teen wants to walk around with missing teeth. Doing so, for many teens, causes social anxiety as they feel different or unattractive. The good news is that there is an alternative to temporary tooth replacement for teens who are not ready for dental implants, which is a partial denture that fills the missing space. Another great option is a bonded bridge held in place by the teeth adjacent to the gap on either side.
