Ontario, CA patients enjoy their dentures for life with shock-absorbing soft liners

Your experience with dentures depends on many factors, from the materials used to make your denture to the precision planning that results in a fit so perfect that you’ll forget you have dentures! Ontario Dental Center offers advanced techniques and technologies, as well as quality materials, to make sure your dentures fit properly and stay comfortable. The application of soft liners at the Ontario, CA office of Dr. Mukesh Patel is just one of the many ways we restore or retain the satisfaction that you get from your dentures.

How soft liners can help you

As the name suggests, a soft liner is made from a pliable, medical-grade compound that is like silicone. This soft material is applied to the surface of the firm denture base. The addition of such a lining helps to absorb the shock that is generated every time you bite and grind down food, or otherwise use your dentures. Think of this product as a cushion between the hard denture material and the surrounding natural tissues.

Additionally, this service increases denture stability, particularly among  patients with lower dentures. The horseshoe-shaped floor of your mouth can present challenges to the proper fit of your denture. Due to the anatomy of your mouth, dentures tend to “float” on the gums and do not have the natural suction that is provided by the roof of the mouth, which tends to “seal” the upper denture to surrounding tissues.

Alternative products include hard liners. They are made similarly to soft liners, based off of an impression or model of your mouth. The difference is that the hard liner alters the denture’s plastic or acrylic base to conform with your changing mouth and for the precision fit that supports comfort and healthy function. Over time, natural tissues evolve and the denture that formerly fit well becomes loose when it no longer hugs the contours of your mouth.

Patients in and around Chino, Montclair, Claremont, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, and Pomona have benefited from well-designed and well-placed soft liners at Ontario Dental Center in a number of ways:

  • They relieve persistent soreness and discomfort.
  • They increase retention and comfort among those with flat (or nearly flat) gums.
  • They offer a cushion over bony areas, especially among patients with thin gum tissue or very narrow, sharp bones.
  • They’re versatile – appropriate for brand-new dentures, as well as older dentures or those appliances in need of a reline and/or rebase to address bone loss and other changes.

Like the rest of your dentures, liners do require a little TLC to keep them at their best. We are happy to demonstrate proper cleaning techniques, and recommend the best products to care for them. Routine professional cleaning and evaluation by Dr. Patel is also a “must.” So, these shock-absorbers can function as designed. Call (909) 414-3535 to schedule your appointment with him today.
